[Sentence Correction] Diction

Diction은 간단히 말해서 단어의 선택! 의미상으로 부정확해질수 있기 때문에
조심히 봐야 할부분! 해석을 했을때는 말이 되지만 모호한 경우가 많다.

예를 들어,

Working at the discount store offers an employee many things.

여기서 many things 가 의미하는것이 너무 크고 광범위 하여 이해하기가 어려움. 조금 더 specific한 단어 선택으로 의미전달을 확실히 하는것이 중요하다. benefit 이나 advantage 같은것들로.

Facilities like laboratories and libraries ...

이부분에서는 like의 사용이 잘못되었다. 예를 설명하는 자리에 쓰일수 있는것은 such as 나 including 같은 단어로 대체 되어야 한다.

<문제 예제>
Reporting that one of its many problems had been the recent extended sales slump in women's apparel, the seven-store retailer said it would start a three-month liquidation sale in all of its stores.


[Certain vs. Uncertain]

The drop in interest rate will create more...
>> The drop in interest rate may create more...

인 경우 의미상으로 확신에서 추측으로 변경되기 때문에 Distort!!

[Hypothetical vs. Actual]

The colors of the sky were as if painted by a thousand angels.
>> The colors of the sky were painted by a thousand angels.

위의 경우에도 마찬가지로 의미가 심하게 왜곡 되며 nonsense의 테마까지 같이 오게 됨.
