[Sentence Correction] Misplaced Modifiers

잘못 위치한 수식어구

내가 느끼는 바로는 SC 문제가 기본적으로 길게 나오는 문장 스타일이 때문에 장난 많이 칠수 있는 문제. 문장을 정확히 해석하는 skill 이 필요하다.

1) 잘못 위치한 단어

Calvin almost ate the whole steak.
>> Calvin ate almost the whole steak.

; almost, even, hardly, only, merely, nearly 등은 문장 사이에 들어가는 위치가 정확해야
의미가 정확히 전달된다.


<의미가 다른 문장들>
Following the rules will lead to success on your test. (O)
The following rules will lead to success on your test. (O)

All the kids are covered with mud. (O)
The kids are all covered with mud. (O)

Only the council votes on Wednesdays. (O)
The council only votes on Wednesdays. (O)
The council votes only on Wednesdays. (O)

2) 잘못위치한 구


The goal keeper stood ignoring the jeering fans in his net.
>> The goal keeper in his net, ignoring the jeering fans.

3) 잘못위치한 절

보통 관계대명사로 수식되는 관계에서 잘못된 위치로 꾸며지는 선행사가 다르게 되어 의미전달이 불명확하게 됨.

The man carrying a dog who was singing a song refused to give up his spot in the line.
>> The man who carrying a dog and singing a song refused to give up his spot in the line.

위의 상황에서 Faulty subordination 발생, 남자가 취하는 행동은 동등하게 취급되어야 하는데 윗문장에서는 잘못된 종속화가 이루어 지고 있음.

4) 분리 부정사

to 부정사는 절대로 쪼개져서 쓰여질수 없음.

Calvin who is allergic to everything should try to, if at all possible, avoid walking in fields during the spring.
>> Calvin who is allergic to everything should try to avoid walking in fields during the spring.

쉬운 개념. 이런걸 본적이 없음. 단, 시험에서 보게될 경우 간과하는 경우가 생길듯 함.

5) 곁눈질 구문

사시수식어 특정 수식어가 어느 선행사를 수식하는지 판단하기가 힘들어. 망설이게 만듬.

Beginning golfers who practice putting often will improve their scores.
>> Beginning golfers who practice putting will often improve their scores.
>> Beginning golfers who often practice putting will improve their scores.
